I’m looking in at the Presidential Race from Ireland, and when I looked into American politics, it seems that I would have a hard time deciding whom I’d support if I were American: Democrat or Republican? I would say that I’m democrat than republican in foreign affairs, and more republican on social issues like crime or abortion.
Social Issues:
* I support abortion only when the Mother’s life is at risk, and I support it’s prohibition in all other circumstances.
* I do not believe that creationism should be taught in science, but rather that the evolution/creationism debate is taught in a non-biased Religion Education class (Which is the way it is in Ireland).
* I do believe in tough sentences for major criminals, but I am against the Death Penalty. For minor criminals, rehabilitation should be the main focus, rather than punishment.
* I would not be against civil unions for Gays and Lesbians, but I wouldn’t support gay/lesbian marriage.
Education:
* I believe that both State-funded religious and secular schooling should be available to all parents for their children.
* I believe that there should be a variety of subjects available to allow children a diverse range of subjects,
Foreign Affairs/Military:
* I would cut Military spending by at least half. America is in no danger of being invaded, and the money is desperately needed in other areas such as health care or education.
* If I were the American President, I would push to abolish the Veto system in the U.N, because the interests of the big powers cannot be allowed to rule the world. A super majority of nations instead would be required.
* I would stop giving military aid to developing countries, and focus exclusively on development aid instead, and increase U.S. aid to 0.7 percent of GDP, as required by the U.N.
* I would not continue to support either the Israelis or the Palestinians until they can come to an agreement. Also, Jerusalem should be an independent City-State, and not allowed to re-unify with either Israel or Palestine.
* I would organise an international embargo aganist goods made in China until it
- Grants true democracy to it’s citizens
- Properly regulates businesses in Chine to stop Wage Slavery
- Allows the Tibetans a referendum on it’s future.
Economic issues:
* I would focus on closing tax loopholes and creating a proportional taxation system.
* I would also cut spending in areas such as military spending and use it to fund small businesses grants to help create employment.
* I would support Universal Healthcare, and in creating a Europe-style welfare system.
If there is anything else you would like to ask me about, feel free

The American form of conservatism (ie Republicans) is pretty much onrecognisable to most people in Europe – Ireland included. Most Europeans who consider themselves conservatuve would be considered liberal by Americans as their idea of conservative is so much more hardcore than anything most Europeans would be comfortable with. Most Europeans find many US Republican ideals quite shocking.
You might think you’re conservative, but by American standards you would be a looooooooooong way off, as proven by some of the replies you havde so far.
You are so obviously a liberal democrat. No doubt. I would never vote for you nor will I vote for any democrat at all because of their moral values. Also, the fact you are a catholic would be top on my list for not getting any vote at all. Catholics are NOT christian and are a cult. Hope that answered your question. It was fun telling a democrat off
The way your examples are worded you have a very socialistic/fascist democrat lean. So you would be a liberal.
i see you have a pic of ghandi he was pro civilian gun ownership which is a typical republican thing
Your answers indicate that you could be either, but there are some important distinctions between the US and Ireland:
*** Education in America is largely provided by the state and local government, not the federal government. From my understanding, it is the national government in Ireland that provides education funding.
*** Crime and punishment in America is, likewise, mostly controlled by state and local govt.
*** Firearm ownership in America is protected by our Constitution, so it couldn’t be prohibited. Moreover, most regulations regarding firearms are enacted at the state and local levels.
