How Can I Get More Involved With Theatre And Switch My Educational Track?

By business answers Posted in: international business

I am a freshman student at DePaul in Chicago in the honors program. Originally when I applied last year, I was planning on majoring in journalism. Then I switched to political science. I am very involved with international affairs. I am president of a politcal advocacy group that I started a chapter at here that focuses on civilian protection across the globe. I also have two national positions within this organization. There are so many opportunites for me right now in this field. I also get to travel to DC five times a year for buisness trips for meetings and conferences. My career is taking off.
However, I am questioning whether or not this is truly the right field for me. I dont think it is anymore. What I really want to focus on is theatre. I have been interested in this my entire life. However I kind of pushed that dream away when I was in middle school, because I wondered how realistic it would be. (however, my family is really involved in musical theatre and in the entertainment business in hollywood). I have always loved to entertain. It is not about the money or anything. I just really love to act and sing.
My courses the past two semesters have been required courses for honors and poly sci. However, I will be taking some acting classes next semester.
I am planning on transferring out of DePaul by the end of this year or next year. I am wondering which school I should try. (boston conservatory? Tisch for NYU?) I am not sure yet. In the meantime, I would like to be more involved in theatre in general. I have never acted in a production in many years. In high school I was involved with all the shows, but that was because I was in the pit orchestra (i played violin for ten years).
How can i get involved in theatre here in Chicago? And can I possible switch my educational track towards theatre?
